A Personal Beauty Space of One’s Own

My New Beauty/Work Room

In the home that I grew up in, my bedroom was the tiniest room in the house…I mean shoebox tiny and in serious competition with the bathroom as far as size was concerned! It was just big enough to fit a twin-sized bed, a little vanity desk/mirror set, a chalkboard, my record player, a chest for my selective collection of toys and a small closet for my clothes. I would spend many hours in there reading, doing my homework, playing with friends, dancing and listening to my favorites albums over and over again.  Just writing about it and recalling the comfort that I felt in my room gives me an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia.   That room was my world from the late 1960s up until I moved into my own place in the mid-1980s.  It was a personal space of my very own and I loved it.

Years later, I now have a much bigger bedroom in my home which is nice, but I also have another smaller room that kind of reminds my of my childhood haven. This little upstairs “nook” has evolved over the years. It started as a nursery for my daughter and transformed into an office that my kids christened the “Books Room” because of all the books that we had in the built-in shelves. For the past few weeks, I have been lovingly turning this space into my very own beauty room and workspace.

One of the best features of this room is the three windows that are built into the main wall.   These windows provide a wonderful natural light (great for photography) and look out into our backyard. I love looking out into our garden where my husband and I planted beautiful shrubs, hydrangea and rose bushes.  When I open the windows during warm weather months, the breeze is delightful and listening to the chirping birds is comforting.   It is bright, warm room that I love spending lots of time in doing things like pampering myself with beauty routines and writing for this blog.

This room is my happy place!

I put together a gallery of photos featuring my room’s decor and all the little details that make it such a wonderful spot for me to hang out in!  I’m still adding some touches here and there, but I’m really loving how it turned out!  I hope that it inspires you to create a special space of your very own!

Hugs and kisses,
Cheryl
